MU has outlined relatively clear plans in the summer of 2025 with many important tasks. Even so, so far, what the Red Devils have done has only stopped at half.
“Do you know what you want your squad to look like when MU comes back to practice before the season in July?”, A reporter asked coach Ruben Amorim.
The Portuguese strategist replied: “Yes. I have a clear idea of what we want. As you know, we are a bit limited and we cannot do everything in a summer, but we have a clear picture of what we want.”
These words were spoken just more than 6 weeks ago, when Amorim broke up the media after MU's post -season trip in Asia. With the Red Devils returning to practice, and the first friendly match against Leeds will take place on July 19, it can be seen that the desire has not come true.
The “5 rebellious” group including Marcus Rashford, Antony, Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho and Tyrrell Malacia were released by having to practice separately, but the key is that MU is helpless in selling these players to liberate the budget for new transfer cases. Up to now, the Red Devils have just brought to Old Trafford two rookies, the striker Maheus Cunha from Wolves and defender Diego Leon from Cerro Porteno.
So, what is happening behind the scenes, and Amorim's prospects in shaping the squad as you like? Does MU have to consider selling some other players to raise capital?
The “rebellious group” was eliminated
On July 4, MU announced that Rashford, Antony, Sancho, Garnacho and Malacia asked to leave and would not practice with the other Amorim's squad. Rashford's No. 10 shirt was given to Cunha. Since being exiled, the only significant development related to these 5 names is that the news they cannot go to MU's Carrington training area – where the players can only come in to restore function and health – until Amorim and his team leave during the day.
In the eyes of Amorim, this “anti -chaotic group” seemed to have no longer existed – a move that showed no concessions or “peaceful compromise” like between Sancho and Erik Ten Hag last summer. That agreement led to Sancho's participation in MU's tour in the US, before docking Chelsea on borrowed.
However, from a different perspective, this is a bad thing for MU. The reason because clubs interested in this group of players will judge them simply waiting for liquidation, meaning that MU will enter negotiating with weak positions. One is the Red Devils accept to sell cheap, or not “keep it”, like that.
The negotiations can last until the end of the transfer period
Antony, Sancho and Malacia cost MU more than £ 167 million. Rashford and Garnacho – both are considered as a “homegrown” player according to the Premier League sustainable profit rule (PSR) – which is valued at a total of 82.34 million pounds according to Transfermarkt.
Obviously, Amorim can use that money well if they are sold. But so far, there is no sign that it will happen. And this aspect is very important. Old Trafford people hope that Bryan Mbeumo's extended transfer from Brentford for more than 60 million pounds will be completed before Amorim and MU start the tour before the season. After that, the Red Devils plan will mainly rely on selling players to sponsor other deals.
Recently, there have been many rumors in the transfer market. Rashford is contacted with Barca – where he is also very eager to wear. Sancho reached Juventus's sights, despite the top priority of coach Igor Tudor, to complete the long -term contract with Francisco Conceicao, who was in the “old lady” on loan from Porto last season.
Meanwhile, Real Betis still hopes to bring Antony after his success at the club in the second half last season. Garnacho's name continues to be mentioned at Chelsea, Napoli and Atletico. Finally, left -back Malacia was proposed as a potential goal for Celtic. The rumors are dense, but nothing of these becomes reality.
Rashford and Sancho are among those with the highest income in the Premier League. Unless one of the two salary reductions – and there is no sign that they are willing to do it – MU will almost certainly have to offer some financial incentives to complete a long -term transfer or loan.
Antony and Malacia were not in such a high -paying group, but the clubs wanted to sign a contract with them to shake their heads, showing that MU would have a similar situation with the duo, only on a smaller scale. As for Garnacho, it is hard to imagine that anyone is willing to pay 60 million pounds that MU believes that they can earn from the Argentine player.
When the possibility of the deal to push the “anti -rebellion group” to leave is not completed until nearly 1/9 increasing, the question is whether MU will consider selling more anyone else or not?
MU has other options to mobilize money?
It is worth noting that MU has earned more money from the terms of this transfer compared to the sale of players. Anthony Elanga's £ 55 million transfer from Nottingham Forest to Newcastle has brought the 6 million pound club. And the number from that special term is expected to increase rapidly this week.
Defender Alvaro Carreras has completed the transfer from Benfica to Real Madrid. MU receives 20% of any fee exceeding 5 million pounds. With a fee of 50 million euros (equivalent to £ 43.33 million), the Red Devils are expected to receive about £ 7.6 million.
In addition, the waiting for the completion of Maxi Oyedele from Legia Warsaw to Strasbourg for 6 million euros (5.2 million pounds) can also bring MU £ 2 million, thanks to their 40% of the resale terms for the 20 -year -old midfielder.
Whether it was enough for MU to release the budget for new transfer deals or not, they still have to wait. So who else MU may have to consider selling?
Kobbie Mainoo has not yet agreed to extend the contract, with the current contract with a term until 2027. Tobyer also has only 2 years of contract, signed from June last year. Both have an option to extend another year, so technically, MU is still in charge.
However, with the appearance of Matheus Cuha and it may be Bryan Mbeumo, plus the captain of Bruno Fernandes rejected an invitation from Saudi Pro League, it was clear that the position in the middle and the roles No. 10 (household) under Amorim's diagram would be very competitive. Currently, the MU squad has names such as Casemiro, Mason Mount, Joshua Zirkzee, Amad Diallo and Manuel Ugarte.
Coach Amorim once asserted that he could operate with a smaller squad this season, because MU did not have to play in the European Cup. Therefore, there will be players outside the “rebellion group” also facing the uncertain future at Old Trafford.
The squad is too unstable with the pillars
Injury has reduced the confidence of Luke Shaw and Lisandro Martinez, who now have to compete the main kick in the defense with two promising young talents, Leny Yoro and Ayden Heaven.
Andrre Onana's wave injury in the pre -season period also facilitated Amorim coach to evaluate the choices in the goalkeeper position. But the fact shows: If the 21 -year -old goalkeeper Radek Vitek cannot break out, Amorim has only two options: or continue to trust on Onana, or take risks when turning to another plan. Altay Bayindir was given the opportunity at the end of last season, but did not leave an impression.
The attack is in the same situation. The pursuit of Liam Delap – the last one chose to join Chelsea – showed that Amorim felt that Rasmus Hojlund was not good enough. Viktor Gyokeres, who used to be a student of Amorim at Sporting, also refused to move to MU. At this time, the Red Devils are pursuing many names, such as Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins, or Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Jamie Vardy are both free players.
However, the contact with these names makes fans ask the question: Is it better to give Hojlund? However, the biggest question is: Amorim really trusts Hojlund – who spent up to £ 72 million to buy from Atalanta 2 years ago – will reach the potential that he promised?
Hojlund has also been contacted to reunite with the old teacher Piero Gasperini at AS Roma. But like many other cases, turning the vague interest into a realistic deal has never been easy.
Currently, there is still time before MU kicked the Fuzzy Premier League 2025/26 against Arsenal on August 17, so that Amorim truly created a clarity that he confidently spoke in Hong Kong. However, until now, the picture at Old Trafford is still too obscure so that MU fans can be assured of the future ahead.
