Despite bringing many quality stars in the summer transfer window 2025, coach Mikel Arteta said Arsenal still needed more new contracts to improve depth and quality.
Arsenal started a pre -season trip to Asia with rookies Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard and Kepa Arrizabalaga. Meanwhile, Noni Madueke is not in the squad because it has just attended the FIFA Club World Cup with Chelsea.
At the press conference to welcome Arsenal's appearance in Singapore to play friendly with Milan and Newcastle, coach Arteta shared about the rookies: “We have recruited very important players. New faces bring new excitement, new energy. I think everyone feels that the peaks must be raised to a new level, and that is what we are looking for.”
Coach Arteta emphasized that Arsenal is still trying to recruit more players. “The transfer is still long, and we are still looking for. In terms of personnel, we are lacking and need to improve the depth and quality of the squad. We are constantly searching in the market. Until that happens, focus on the players we have and focus on them. I am very satisfied with what I have seen in the past 10-15 days.”
“Ideally, you want that right from the first day of the pre -season period. I think we have done very well so far, I am very satisfied with the club that supports the needs and improvements we need in the team. I think Andrea Berta (Arsenal sports manager) and the whole team have done very well, as well as trying to boost everything. The Spaniard added.
Arsenal is currently trying to complete the contract with striker Viktor Gyokeres (Sporting Lisbon) and defender Cristhian Mosquera (Valencia). In these two deals, Mosquera was nearly completed but Gyokeres was still having a lot of knots on the negotiating table.
“I can't comment on any player who is not in our squad. When we have something specific to provide any player, we will do it,” coach Arteta still opened up about Gyokeres' recruitment negotiations.
Back to Arsenal, they will face AC Milan at Singapore National Stadium on July 23, before confronting Newcastle on Sunday 27/7. However, the Gunners' first training after arriving at the Lion Island on Monday was delayed due to heavy rain.
