The Chelsea squad decided to thank Diogo Jota and the younger brother of the late striker by donating a bonus from FIFA Club World Cup to their family.
On July 13, Chelsea won the Club World Cup after a 3-0 shocking victory over the Champions League PSG champion at MetLife in New Jersey. With this result, the Premier League Club is estimated to bring about 85 million bonuses for the tournament championship. The final took place less than 2 weeks after the tragic accident in Cernadilla, Spain, robbing the lives of stars Liverpool, Jota and younger brother Andre Silva.
As recently revealed, the Chelsea players decided to deduct a part of the World Cup bonus to send to the family of two brothers, as a touching action.
According to The Athletic, Chelsea was allocated £ 11.4 million to divide evenly to the players attending the World Cup Club. However, after discussing the club and the players, they decided to deduct an equal amount to send to the Jota family, with a total amount of $ 500,000 ($ 3684 pound).
In his career, Jota has a close relationship with Chelsea's Pedro Neto winger, who used to stand with him in Wolves and the Portuguese team.
As for Liverpool, before the 2025/26 season, The Reds announced the plan to build a permanent monument at Anfield to express gratitude to Jota. The club also announced that he would permanently hang the number 20 at all levels to commemorate the striker who scored 65 goals after 182 matches for the club.
Before the match against Bournemouth in the Premier League 2025/26 at dawn on August 16, Liverpool players and fans will spend a minute of reciting for Jota and his younger brother. Liverpool players will also wear the logo “Forever 20” on the shirt and jacket during the season.
