This year 44 years old, Zuhaitz Gurrutxaga used to play for some clubs in La Liga like Sociedad or Vallecano. Zuhaitz launched the Real Sociedad team at the age of 19. “I am too young. I could not withstand that pressure and responsibility. Gradually, I began to suffer from mental health problems such as anxiety, depression and obsessive -compulsive disorders,” Zuhaitz explained.
Zuhaitz shared to succeed at that age, there are two options: either more mature than that age or not noticing anything. The former La Liga star said he gradually realized that the situation was being over -ending, so much that he “would rather not want to play”. “I prefer to sit on the bench and rather than being able to play more,” Zuhaitz explained.
One of the obsessive diseases Zuhaitz is an obsessive disorder (OCD). “You began to haunted whether you were closed in front, turned off the lights, kitchen, ovens yet … You started haunting about that, your anxiety increased and the only way to reduce that anxiety was to turn it into a forcedness,” Zuhabz. That is why before practicing, Zuhaitz “spends half an hour or 40 minutes to check all that”.
Hygiene also becomes an obsession for Gurrutxaga. “I was afraid to touch objects or others because I thought I would be infected,” the former Spanish defender shared. Zuhaitz Gurrutxaga also mentioned how OCD affects his sex life. Gurrutxaga also said that during his time as a football player, he once did not have sex for two years. “I couldn’t even do it without condoms because I was afraid of unsanitary,” Gurrutxaga said, “It’s troublesome, because even if I use a condom, I will still doubt the next day about whether I wear it properly or not.”
The obsession has reached the point where the former Real Sociedad player claims he is holding the record for the most used condom number when having sex. “I used 7 condoms in one bed. I didn’t think there was such a record in the world.” Still according to Gurrutxaga, he was very afraid to flirt with any girl because he thought about struggling with the thought of using “raincoats” properly was not enough to shiver.
Luckily for Gurrutxaga when his mother was the one who realized the health of this player and advised him to see a specialist. According to Gurrutxaga, it was the “best thing” that he used to do. Along with that, former Sociedad defender recorded all these experiences in the newly published book titled “Subcamppeón”.
