Former defender of MU and Real Madrid, Gabriel Heinze joined Mikel Arteta's training team at Arsenal.
The transfer expert Fabrizio Romano in the recent post on Twitter wrote: “Gabriel Heinze has now accepted to become part of the Mikel Arteta staff. The Argentine coach will replace Carlos Cuesta, who has moved to lead Parma. Heinze will soon sign a contract because Mikel Arteta once tried to bring him to Arsenal in 2024.”
Coach Arteta and Heinze used to be teammates at PSG in the 2001/02 season. At the beginning of the 2024/25 season, Arteta talked about his time at PSG as follows: “The inspiration is different from me (Mauricio) Pochettino and Heinze, the two of them are always beside me, support behind me and instructed me everything to do in my professional life, how I understand how the game and they inspired me.”
Heinze, 47, used to hold management roles at the Argentine team, Godoy Cruz, the American professional team (MLS), Atlanta United and Newell's Old Boys – the club where he started his career since retiring in 2014.
The last position of the former Argentine player is at Newell's Old Boys, but he left in November 2023 after a year of charge.
Heinze's career witnessed him winning the national championship at the Man United, Real Madrid and Marseille clubs, as well as the Olympic gold medal with Argentina in Athens in 2004. Heinze had 72 caps on the Argentine national team and twice in Copa America.
The former Argentine player will join the Arsenal training team including assistant Albert Stuivateberg, coach of Nico Jover fixed situations and goalkeeper Inaki Cana. All three have come to Arsenal since 2021.
