Despite scoring 97 goals for Sporting Lisbon in the past two seasons, rookie striker Viktor Gyokeres admitted he was looking forward to experience the feeling of scoring in Arsenal shirt.
The Swedish striker from the giant Portuguese team, Sporting Lisbon – where he helped them win two national championships and a national cup. Gyokeres has proved to be one of the most effective scoring players of European football, a truth proved by his achievement at the international level as well as 6 goals in the Champions League last season.
Despite playing for Brighton, Swansea and Coventry throughout his career, the 27 -year -old has never once played in the Premier League. But now, when he has the opportunity to express himself after coming to North London, England is ready to make a mark, especially for high -class teammates ready to support him.
“I always want to score,” Gyokeres said. “Being a part of this club, scoring in this outfit and with this badge in front of the fans, I am very eager. It will be a great feeling. I started here (in England), it feels like it has been a long time. I think I have made a lot since then. Now I want to prove myself and play with the team.
“Playing for Arsenal is a great honor, and scoring the goal is great. When I was playing for Sporting, I scored a few goals in the Champions League, so I felt that I could reach that level. Now, to a club like Arsenal, I think it will help me to show better, along with all the great players in this team.
Viktor's scoring achievement made him one of the most sought after strikers on the continent, but after talking to coach Mikel Arteta and sports director Andrea Berta this summer, he felt that moving to Emirates is the right decision to help his career continue to grow.
“I just feel this is the club that suits me. What I heard from Mikel and Andrea when talking to them, and what I saw in recent years, the way they played football. When I confront Arsenal last season, I really felt it was a very strong and difficult team to play.
That made me choose Arsenal, and of course the heroic history of the club and the large number of fans. It was great to see the support they gave me even before I arrived. That is the most important thing. It will be great to witness them on the stadium, ”Gyokeres shared.
After signing a 5 -year contract, Gyokeres will wear the number 14 shirt and immediately join the team during the tour before the team's season in Asia. The number 14 shirt was once worn by the legendary Thierry Henry when wearing the North London team. In addition to Henry, this shirt has also been used by Martin Keown, according to Walcott, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Last season, this shirt was empty after Eddie Nketiah broke up Arsenal to switch to Crystal Palace.
