MU's reconstruction continued to a new page, when the club confirmed that it was appointed Stephen Torpey as the Academy Director.
Torpey, 43, was once the Brentford Academy Manager – where he impressed and caught the sight of the Red Devils. Earlier, Torpey used to play the role of the Academy Training Department in Man City, after starting his career in the blue half of Manchester as a young coach. Torpey also took the same position in Liverpool.
MU's sports director Jason Wilcox shared: “After the careful selection process, we are very happy to be appointed Stephen at the special time of the Academy. Stephen's young player's development records are really excellent. Throughout his career, he has made an important contribution to the maturity of many top talents in the UK.
We will work closely to ensure that the Academy continues to create an appropriate environment, nurture personal development and offer the best players, ready to shine in the first team. “
Torpey himself expressed his eagerness: “I am really proud to have the opportunity to lead the Man United Academy. This is obviously a great time to join when the club entered the new era.
I was anxious to contribute to the continuation of the extraordinary tradition of young training here. After working with the Board of Directors, I clearly see that the Academy is always the core in the identity of Man United, with the top goal of producing players who can support the first team that can compete for big titles. “
Torpey will officially start work in the next few months, with Cox nickname still operating in Carrington to ensure the process of transfers go smoothly.
Meanwhile, the beginning of MU's new season was not very favorable when Ruben Amorim's team lost to Arsenal in the opening round. On August 24, MU will be guests before Fulham in the second round of the Premier League.
