Striker Marcus Rashford said that MU is in a suspended state, unknown direction, after experiencing many coaches with different winning strategies, leaving the club the lack of clear orientation.
The 27 -year -old striker shared on the Podcast “The Rest is Football” on Wednesday that MU could not expect the Premier League championship, when the orientation was constantly changing and “the real transfer (after Sir Alex Ferguson) has not started.”
“We are below the standard that we consider to be worthy of MU, but if you take a step back, what I can do, especially in the past 6 months, you will see: What do we expect?”, Rashford told Gary Lineker and Micah Richards.
“Any team that succeeds in a long time has the principles that any new coach or player must follow. But sometimes I feel that MU just yearn for victory, so we always try to adapt and recruit players suitable for the current system. But that's just a temporary reaction.
Rashford, who signed a loan contract with Barca in July after 426 appearances for the first team MU, took Liverpool – the Premier League champion – as a comparison example.
“People say we have been in the transition period for many years, but to actually transfer, we must first start that process, and the fact that it has not started,” he explained. “When Liverpool experienced this, they had Klopp and they were consistent with him, they didn't win from the beginning. People only remember his last years when competing with Man City and winning big titles.
This is when I talk about reality with my situation. I felt that we had too many coaches, too many different ideas and strategies to win, and eventually fell into a suspended state, unknown direction. “
Since Ferguson leaving Old Trafford in 2013, MU has experienced 10 different coaches, of which 4 are temporary (Ryan Giggs, Michael Carrick, Ralf Rangnick, Ruud Van Nistelrooy). The official coaches include David Moyes, Louis Van Gaal, Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Erik Ten Hag and now Ruben Amorim.
Coach Alex Ferguson has led MU for 26 years, winning 38 titles, including 13 Premier League championships. Since then, MU has only won the FA Cup (2024), League Cup (2023) and Europa League (2017). They also set a record 3 times in the lowest position in the history of the club in the domestic league, in the 2013/14, 2023/24 and 2024/25 seasons.
Few people have a favorable position like Rashford to comment on Man United's mistakes in the past 12 years, because he has played under the guidance of 5 out of 6 coaches officially succeeding Sir Alex Ferguson.
The criticism of the 27 -year -old striker for short -term thinking in the upper class is clearly reflected in the difference in the style of playing and the personality of the coaches he has worked with – from the philosophy of the strict control of the ball, the discipline of Louis van Gaal, to the pragmatic approach “the victory above” of Jose Mourinho, then Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's fast attack tradition.
Rashford's affirmation that “to start a transfer, you must plan and be consistent with it” certainly not implicitly supported Ruben Amorim, especially when he was removed by MU's current captain.
However, Amorim is still consistent with his principle, refusing to change the 3-4-2-1 diagram even when it leads to the target in the worst position of the Premier League era last season. So far, the MU leadership has thoroughly supported his vision, despite that, which means removing a player born in the locality, growing up from the Academy and has scored 138 goals for the club.
