Former player Jamie Carragher criticized Var after Bournemouth defender Marco Senesi escaped the red card early before Liverpool.
The controversial situation took place in the 14th minute, when Mo Salah tried to poke the rookie Hugo Ekitike. A broken touch of Senesi accidentally put Ekitike into the goal facing the goal, although the position was still quite far away from the penalty area.
It is worth mentioning that, in an effort to fix it, Senesi swung his hand and tried to deceive the ball. After that, he broke the ball, Cody Gakpo was blown punishment for letting the ball touch his hand and Bournemouth enjoyed a free kick.
Liverpool's coach Arne Slot was extremely angry, along with the red shirt players. However, despite the backlash, Var still did not get in.
Commenting on Sky Sports, Peter Drury said: “VAR has completed the test, and thinks that the player does not control the ball, the ball comes from one person to the other.”
In the comments, Carragher replied: “It was a touch of hand.
The 47 -year -old former player added: “The information that the referee received was not right.” The Premier League arbitration center then confirmed this decision, said the reason for not blowing punishment was because the situation happened too far from the goal.
A Premier League post on X wrote: “The decision not to draw a red card for Senesi has been tested and confirmed by Var, saying that it is not a clear touch or behavior that hindering the chance of scoring (Dogso), due to the distance too far from the goal.”
Ekitike, 23, then still took Liverpool to lead in the 37th minute … with Senesi himself was the mistake. The French striker easily overcome this defender, before calmly hitting the net of Djordje Petrovic, scoring his first goal in the Premier League.
