After 6 years of working with Real Sociedad, Martin Zubimendi and Mikel Merino reunited in North London. Arsenal went a very unbelievable round to gather these two stars back to the same roof.
“This is a different change for me. That is the change I want,” Zubimendi told reporters at the launch of Arsenal's 2025/26 away shirt, at Nova Bar on the rooftop in Singapore, 282 meters from the ground. “From the first day I was here, I realized the greatness of this club, and I was adapting.”
“That's why he is here,” Merino added. “This club gives you the right atmosphere to build great things, to fight for big titles. We have the right attitude, a team that really desires – it's wonderful.”
Over the period of just over 10 months, Arsenal signed a contract with two Spanish midfielders from the same La Liga club. In the 2023/24 season, Zubimendi and Merino played 45 matches each (Merino played 39 matches; Zubimendi 41 matches), helping Real Sociedad reached the 6th place and reached the round of 16 Champions League teams. Arsenal then transferred two -thirds of the middle line to North London.
