Several dead after plane crashes near interstate in Tennessee
A sad incident occurred on Monday night in Nashville, Tennessee, where a small plane crashed while trying to make an emergency landing. The pilot contacted the control tower at John Tune airport around 7:40 p.m. ET, reporting engine and power issues and seeking permission to land. Despite getting approval, the pilot realized the plane wouldn’t make it to the airport.
Witnesses observed the distressed plane flying over the interstate before crashing behind a Costco near Interstate 40’s Eastbound lanes. The impact was severe, causing the plane to implode, and unfortunately, there were no survivors.

The Nashville Fire Department quickly responded to the scene, dealing with intense flames but managing to extinguish the fire and preserve evidence. Both the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are on their way to investigate.

Several dead after Single plane crash on side of interstate in Tennessee
In West Nashville, Tennessee, a small plane crashed on the side of Interstate 40, and sadly, several people have lost their lives, as reported by the Metro Nashville Police. The incident happened around 7:44 p.m. on Monday, behind the Nashville West Shopping Center.
The plane had taken off from John Tune Airport nearby but crashed shortly after takeoff. The Metro Nashville Airport Authority mentioned that the pilot had requested an emergency landing at the airport due to engine problems.
Tragically, everyone on the plane has passed away, though the exact number of people on board is still unknown. Fortunately, the crash did not impact any vehicles or buildings along the eastbound lanes of the interstate.
Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell expressed gratitude to the swift response of the first responders, stating, “Our thoughts go out to the loved ones of all those on board the single-engine aircraft that crashed near Interstate 40 this evening.” He also thanked the emergency responders for their quick actions in extinguishing the fire.
Rebekah Hammonds from the Tennessee Department of Transportation urged drivers to avoid the area, with I-40 East closed at MM 202 due to the crash. A diversion is set up at Exit 201, and an alternate route is advised as the investigation continues.
